The mosque was built during the Bengal Sultanate by Ulugh Khan Jahan, who
was the governor of the Sundarbans.
The building work of the mosque was started in 1442 and it was fully
completed in 1459.
The mosque was usually used for prayers, and also as a madrasha and
sometime as assembly hall.
