2 Levels of management – Top, Middle and Fist-line managers. Ensure that you know the responsibilities of each level of
management and be able to compare them
3 Skills – conceptual, interpersonal and technical skills. Ensure that you know how the levels of management apply these
skills
4 Roles of a manager – interpersonal, informational and decision-making roles. Ensure that you know and understand these
roles

• Classical approaches; and
• Contemporary approaches
Read these theories in-depth to enable you to understand how these theories responded to each other; and to be able to describe
and compare them:

1 Scientific school – Taylor’s scientific methods to increase productivity


2 Management process school – Fayol’s: plan, organise, lead and control
3 Human relations school – Mayo’s relationship between people
