Consumer Health
Consumer -is the one who
selects, buys and uses products
found in the market for
personal needs and wants
Consumer Products -are the ones sold
in department stores, markets ranging
from the clothes you wear, the foods
that you eat and the medicines that you
take.
Consumer Services- on the other hand,
are provided by medical practitioners
such as doctors, dentists and other
health professionals.
Consumer Health -pertains to the
aspects of wise purchase of health
products and services in order to obtain
the ultimate satisfaction and wellness
of the body.
Consumer Health Education -makes
people aware of the quality of goods
that they purchase, it helps people to
take right services on right time, gives
knowledge of the existing laws and
protection of the consumer rights and
encourage consumer to be united and
raise collective voice against the
practice of adulteration and quackery.

There are 8 basic rights of a consumer
according to the act.
What is Health Fraud?
Health Fraud is the dishonest promotion,
advertising, distribution or sale of articles
claimed to be effective in diagnosing,
preventing, curing or treating an illness or
condition or providing
a beneficial effect on health but have not
been scientifically proven safe and effective.
Who are the victims of health fraud?
1. Those who fall short of developing the
correct attitude and orientation on health.
2. Those who are unaware of the roles,
responsibilities and rights of being users of
health products and services.
3. Those who do not give the right value for
money, time, environment and people
Identify which consumer right is being
violated.
1. Maria’s tooth is aching. One of her friends told her
about the dentist in their place.
While she was in the clinic, she felt uncomfortable
because the doctor treated her as
she has nothing to pay for the service.

2. Jose bought a TV set. After one week of using, it is


not working properly.

3. Princess bought canned goods at the supermarket.


When she returned home, she
noticed that there was no expiration date written on her
purchases.
4. Marnie was convinced to avail the 60% discount on
pair eyeglasses offered by an ophthalmology clinic. But
when she was paying for it the sales lady told her that
there was no more available pair of eyeglasses. The
sales lady offered and forced her to purchase something
that is more expensive than what she is buying.

5. A celebrity is endorsing an energy drink, but most of


the men who tested the product were rushed to the
hospital because of its side effects.
