NATURE AND BACKGROUND
1. Dancers imitates the movement of
the tikling birds who has a long
neck and legs who tries to escape
bamboo traps set by the farmers.

2. The farmers who work slowly were


punished by standing between two
bamboo poles and these poles
were being clap in order to beat
the farmers feet.

BASIC STEPS IN THE DANCE TINIKLING
INTRODUCTION
1. Dancers take 4 waltz steps forward.
2. Dancers stand at the left side of the pole on the left foot.
3. Tap with right foot twice between the poles. (Repeat 3x)

1. Dancers take 7 tinikling steps, L & R alternately. (hands-
kumintang)
2. Step R foot outside, hop twice on L foot between turning right.
3. Take another 7 tinikling steps, L & R alternately. (hands-
kumintang)
4. Hop L foot outside, hop twice on R foot between turning right.
BASIC STEPS IN THE DANCE TINIKLING
FIGURE 2: CLOCKWISE AND COUNTERCLOCKWISE
1. Starting with L foot, take for steps forward outside the poles.
Turn right and hop on L and R foot between poles.
2. Repeat three times more, going clockwise. On the 8M, hop on L
foot twice between the poles.
3. Repeat 1 and 2 in reverse direction.
4. Dancers take three steps away from the poles face each other.
BASIC STEPS IN THE DANCE TINIKLING
FIGURE 3: KURADANG STEP
1. Take eight “kuradang” steps, R & L alternately.
Arms in fourth position, R & L alternately.
2. At the last measure, boy jumps over to the left side of his
partner.
