Six box model
Marvin Weisbord proposed one of the earliest diagnostic models known
as six-box model. This model represents a particular way of looking at
organisational structure and design. It gives attention to issues such as
planning, incentives and rewards, the role of support functions such as
personnel, internal competitions among organisational units,
partnerships, hierarchies and organisational control, accountability
and performance assessment.

organisation's purpose and mission? How supportive are
they of the organisation's purpose and mission.

purpose/mission and the internal structure that is designed

For this box, Weisbord was concerned with three categories: between
individuals; between and among groups, units and departments and so forth
and between the person and the requirements of his or her job. He argued that,
diagnostically, first, one should consider the quality of these relationships and
then one should consider the adequacy of the models for managing and dealing
with conflict.

This box is at the centre of the model because Weisbord
believed that organisational leaders' jobs are to watch for
blips on the radar screen regarding each of the other five
boxes and to maintain a balance among them.
