CLASS ATTENDANCE VIA

VOICE RECOGNITION

USING ANN ALGORITHM

Introduction

Modern technology is advancing rapidly, making conventional techniques for

verifying, capturing, and calculating data include growing ever-more-outdated. The

most crucial factor in replacing manual or traditional procedures is increasing

technology productivity. There is an issue in education today since mostly all schools in

the Philippines still take attendance manually. Manual attendance has been used for

many years, but it takes a lot of time and gives inaccurate statistics[1].
Teachers that use the current system for tracking attendance encountered issues with lost

attendance sheets, dishonesty, wastage of time, and a high error rate. The school is required to

keep track of students' attendance in registers and files using pen and paper. Everything

depends on human data input from gathering attendance information to gathering percentage

information for each student. The total attendance percentage of a student may be mistaken as

a result of a simple manual data input error.

Researchers seek an automated method of managing attendance given the advancement of technology.

Class Attendance via Voice Recognition Using ANN has various advantages. In this research, an effort

should have been made to use voice recognition on the android platform to record students’ attendance

using a mobile device. The teacher can effectively manage the students' attendance with its assistance.

The capability of the ANN Algorithm has been demonstrated in many aspects such as isolated-word

recognition, phoneme classifier, and probability estimator for speech recognizers. Much as ANN offers high

discriminative training, especially for short-time speech signals as in isolated words, it also has issues with

adequately modeling temporal variations of long-time speech signals [9].

Objectives

• To identify the challenges and process involving class attendance monitoring.

• To develop a system that can improve the current attendance system using

voice recognition.

• To measure system usability.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

• According to (Kumar and Salal 2019), All of the teaching methods mentioned a set of data that is related to the
progress of students in the field of academics, students’ grades, and student absence and if that data is not
properly analyzed then all the collected data is going to be wasted and no further use of that data happens.

• The system of student attendance is very important in determining the amount of student participation in their
lectures. One of the most important situations is the student’s readiness for the faculty member to be able to
determine the student’s activities, and universities use the necessary metrics to reduce student absenteeism in
accordance with (Al Sheikh, Al-Assami et al. 2019).

• In addition, Systems such as Android and Apple sometimes collaborate on the advancement of technologies.
They have also been very influential in terms of serving students, especially in determining the number of
absences and creating QR codes that have been placed on mobile systems based on the study of (Sunaryono,
Siswantoro et al. 2019), stated on page 3.
• In accordance by Pooja et. al (2014), proposed an automated attendance management system that is based

on face detection and recognition algorithms. In this method, by using Webcam the student is automatically

detected when he enters the classroom and marks the attendance by recognizing him, on page 6-7.

• Based on the study of Walia and Jain’s (2016) review of fingerprint attendance systems showcased the

reliability of biometric technology used in attendance systems, stated on page 6.

Republic Act No. 11293
This study is anchored with Republic Act No. 11293 otherwise known as the “Philippine Innovation Act”
of 2019 that foster the innovation in the country as vital component of national development and sustainable
economic growth. Pursuant to Section 10, Article XIV of the Constitution, it recognizes science and
technology as “essential for national development and progress” and gives priority to “research and
development, invention, innovation and their utilization”.
