 Skills for Trainers
1. Technology Skills
Instructors and trainers must know how to use learning management systems and the
mobile learning apps and tools that integrate with them, as well as how to develop
effective training materials with video editing and advanced content authoring tools
and software. They also must know how to operate technology that’s used inside a
workplace classroom setting.
2. Strong Communication Skills
Instructors and trainers must have good communication skills to be able to
communicate new and old concepts to adult learners and relay those concepts in a way
that is engaging and helpful.
3. Organizational Skills
Organizing lessons and courses is a part of being an instructor or a trainer. Instructors
and trainers need to not only know how to organize courses and materials in an
engaging and practical way for learners’ retention levels but also keep their calendars
organized. In addition, they must clearly communicate and document what’s required
of each learner and when.

4. Adaptability
Effective instructors and trainers are adaptable. If they can tell certain course material isn’t “clicking”
with some learners or they need to switch schedules, they adapt. They are constantly finding new and
engaging ways to relay the same concepts and aren’t afraid to adopt new learning strategies or materials
so that they’re accessible and engaging.
5. Ability to Assess Employees
All instructors and trainers should be comfortable assessing an employee’s willingness to learn, as well
as the knowledge or skills that employee has retained. They are adept at designing and administering
assessments and  always make sure assessments are accurate and helpful.
6. Advanced Research Skills
When designing course materials and assessing employees, effective instructors and trainers research
the best and most relevant methods. They ensure that their learning materials are relevant and that their
tactics inspire learning and engagement.
7. Enthusiasm for Learning
Above all else, effective instructors and trainers display a sincere enthusiasm for learning. They are
always learning new things themselves while inspiring others to do the same. They have the skills
required to be continuous learners and motivate continuous learning.

What is a Training Module?
• A training module is a component of a course that
focuses on a specific objective and is designed to teach
on a learning topic.
• A training module is an learning element that
specializes in a particular goal.
Steps for creating training module
Step 1: Identify your learning objectives
As with any important task, you must start with clear goals. What is it you want to
achieve with your training? The right target will help you understand what content
to include and what tools to use.
Start by looking at problems your teams face. What are you trying to solve with
the training? Once you know what you want to achieve, you can begin to break
your bigger goal down into individual topics that will be the foundations of your
modules.
For instance, say you have a company goal of improving customer satisfaction scores by
15% by the end of the year. You determine that to achieve your goal, employees need to be
trained in how to have effective problem-solving conversations with customers.
Next, select specific learning objectives for each module. Focus on making them SMART
—set specific, measurable targets that are relevant to the bigger goal.
Your training objective for the problem-solving conversations module might include
understanding how to begin a conversation confidently, proper communication etiquette,
dealing with difficult situations, and following up with a customer.
Step 2: Decide on your content type(s):

Once you know your learning objectives, decide what content


formats will best serve them. Different content types work for
different skill sets and audiences. Some of the content types you
might consider include:
 Video
 Scenario-based learning
 Quizzes
 Presentations and graphics
 Micro learning
 Group discussions 
Step 3: Create your training module template
Once you know what content you’ll use, it’s time to put it into a
template. You can build one from scratch or save time and effort
by choosing a premade one.

What is a Training Budget?
• A training budget refers to the direct and indirect costs and resources
used to train employees in an organization. It includes the cost of
courses, books, and other learning materials. It also includes indirect
costs like wages, compensation, and time spent setting up training.
• All direct and indirect costs associated with courses and materials
needed to analyze, design, develop, implement, evaluate, and
maintain employee training or retraining.
• The training budget is a document that includes all the costs related
to courses, materials and training plans for the workforce.
• It is the roadmap for how training funds will be used throughout the
year. This ensures that we get the maximum return on investment
and don’t end up overspending on other actions.
What to take into account when calculating the
training budget? 

You should take into account aspects such as:


 The salary for time not worked when the training takes place during working hours. 
 The extra you will have to compensate if it is done outside working hours.
 Remuneration or associated costs such as transport if workers have to travel to other
facilities.  
Training Calendar
• It is a comprehensive schedule of all the programs, modules and
courses, which are going to be conducted over a specified period
of time. It is the training calendar, which will be used downstream
in all the processes. The training administrator, faculty and the
trainees will operate based on the training calendar.

• ‘Training Calendar’ means a published schedule reflecting the


planned training activities for department staff.

• The Training calendar provides for scheduling of programs,


modules and courses, independent modules, and independent
courses. All the details like date and time when the training is
going to be conducted, the faculty who is going to handle it and
the venue in which it is going to be conducted can be captured.
