instruction”?

What do you expect to learn from this

class?
WHAT IS REMEDIAL INSTRUCTION IN
READING?

The remedial reading is a supplemental

reading program that consists of re- reading
unfamiliar text until a satisfactory level of
fluency is reached. Remedial reading is a
strategy that implements assisted reading,
reading while listening, and paired reading.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course provides background information on the
nature, symptoms and causes of reading difficulties and
possible remedies. It also considers principles of diagnosis and
remediation, corrective reading and the discussion of
assessment tools and procedures. Steps in organizing a
remedial reading program as well as a variety of remedial
reading activities to suit specific difficulties form the core of the
course. The course also exposes students to strategies and
materials used for correcting reading difficulties as well as
planning instruction for remedial work. Emphasis is given on an
actual observation of the condition and progress of a
pupil/student with reading difficulties which will be used in
writing a case study
What is the purpose of remedial
instruction?
Remedial programs offer the possibility of focusing on
those students who are lagging behind and teaching at a
level that is appropriate for their current level of skills.
Ideally, such an intervention would increase their
progress, and decrease the heterogeneity of student
learning levels in a given grade.
OBJECTIVES:
1. To give additional help to learners who for one reason or
another, have fallen behind the rest of the class from their
respective subjects.
2. To provide learning support to learners who lag far behind
their counterparts in school performance.
3. To provide systematic training to develop learner’s generic
skills from interpersonal relationship, communication,
problem solving, self- management, self-learning,
independent thinking, creativity, and use of information
technology.
