07] Accuracy of fetal structural anomalies detection by ultrasonography at 14-16 weeks of gestation in Fayuom University hospital:
Introduction
Between 2% and 3% of all births
have a congenital anomalies.
This contributes for 20-30% of
all perinatal deaths and is a
major contributor to maternal
and infant morbidity. Reduced
perinatal mortality has been
linked to early ultrasound
screening for fetal abnormality,
which can lead to a higher rate of
elective abortions

To evaluate the role of 2D
transabdominal ultrasound
scanning at 14-16 weeks in
assessment and detection of
fetal congenital anomalies in
high-risk population group
as compared with the mid
trimester ultrasound fetal
anatomy scan

Patients & Methods
An observational study
conducted on 150 pregnant
women with an average age 31.5
±6.3 years old, as they visit the
US unit for their ANC in the
period from December 2019 to
December 2021, to compare
early targeted organ scanning at
gestational ages ranging from
14-16 vs. 18-22 weeks.
Transabdominal US scan was
carried using [Voluson E6 BT 12
(GE) with a C1-5-RS Curved
Array Probe].
Results
There was non-statistically
significant difference between
14-16 vs. 18-22 weeks regarding
neck anomalies, heart activity,
absence of diaphragmatic
hernia, presence of stomach in
normal position, absence of
bowel dilatation, all skeletal
parameters and all placental
parameters. Regarding head
details; intact cranium, midline Conclusions
falx and thalami were detected
at 14-16 >18-22 weeks while
