Targeted Age Group

● On the Book Creator website pre-made resources are available

from Pre-K all the way up to high school level. These resources
are available to teachers for implementation into the classroom.
● As for uses for students, I personally think Book Creator works
best for students 2nd-12th grades.
○ It could be used in younger classrooms but it would be more teacher
directed activities and the students would need assistance navigating
the various features.
Equipment
Needed
● A computer or tablet is needed.
○ If using a computer you will
access Book Creator through
the website.
○ If you are using a tablet an app
is available.
● Internet access is needed to access
the website and app.
● Headphones may also be used
but are not necessary.
Technical Support

● On the Book Creator website there is a page for technical

support. On this page you will find frequently asked
questions along with some troubleshooting options.
● If you can’t find what you are looking for from the technical
support page there is an option to chat with one of the
technical support staff.
● Book Creator also offers free weekly webinars.
Limitations

● A reliable internet connection is required. Book Creator may

experience slow download speeds if internet connection is not strong.
● 1:1 Computer/Tablet
● Parents may not be comfortable with students publishing their books
to the internet for everyone to see. This is because students can add
pictures of themselves in an about me page and parent might not be
not like it.
○ Send information to the parent about the usage of Book Creator
and ask permission for students to publish to the web.

● The most common way Book Creator is used is s-for-teachers/example-books/
for students to turn their writings into online
published books.
● Students have the ability to choose from a
variety of book templates.
● Once students have chosen their template they
can add backgrounds, clip art, font, pictures
from the internet or even upload pictures from
their computer.
● After their books are finished they can publish
their books for peers in the class to read or
even peers all over the world.

Research

● Book Creator started in 2011 when the creators Dan Amos

and Ally Kennen saw a need when their son was not
making progress in reading. Their thinking was “Wouldn’t
it be better if they could make their own books about the
very things he loves? Books about Star Wars, books about
pets, books about family. At the same time an iPad enters
the household and they wonder how do we get our kids as
engaged with reading as they are with the iPad?” That's
Research continued

● Scholastic praises Book Creator for being simple to use

even for students who may not be reading or writing yet.
(Lovely.G.2015)
● A case study done by Google states “Book Creator’s
advantages come from its open-ended, collaborative
nature. Students and teachers can work together inside and
outside of the classroom to create and publish ebooks and
learning materials related to classroom topics.” (2021)
Reflection

● When I first started working with Book Creator I thought it was limited to
just creating online books. The more I researched the more I learned that
it’s much more than that. Book Creator has thousands of resources already
there for teachers to use at the click of a button. Students have the ability
to collaborate with each other and practice providing constructive
feedback. Students also have the opportunity to view published materials
from other students and class from all over the world. There is even a
section of books in various languages. I am excited to implement Book
Creator into my classroom and using it to its fullest potential.
