Exercise:

Build and run a dynamic Model

• Construct the .DATA file using the given data below ( here slides 2,3 and 4)
• Run the model using Eclipse
• Analyze the PRT file, check for the initial oil volume in place
• Use office to view the results and plot BHP, WWCT, WOPR, WOPR, FPR,
FOPR, FOPT ….
• Map the SWAT, SOIL , PRESSURE at he initial and by the end of history.
• Make your judgment
Exercise Consider a simulation model (oil-water system) consisting of
75 grid blocks with a dimension of 5 x 5 x 3. The total
dimension in x-direction is equal to the y-direction of 2500
feet. The total thickness of the model is 150 ft.

Depth of reservoir top = 8000 ft
Initial pressure at 8075 ft = 4500 psia
Porosity = 0.2 (constant throughout the model)
x- permeability = 200 for 1st and 3rd layers, 1000 for 2nd layer
y- permeability = 150 for 1st and 3rd layers, 800 for 2nd layer
z- permeability = 10 percent of x-permeability
Rock compressibility at 4500 psiq = 4 microsip

Water density at surface condition = 63 lb/cf

Both of the wells perforated throughout the model.

The producers is set constant at 10,000 stb liquid / day and the injector is set at 11,000 stb
water/d.
Both of them start at day simultaneously.

Exercise

Figure 1,
Account for the subsequent trends of these
two pressure (BHP in the injector and
producer) and of the field average pressure,
relating these to the reservoir production
and injection rates, water-cut and the PVT
data of the reservoir fluid.

Explain why average pressure initially drop

then stabilized and then later increase at
the middle of the simulation run?

Exercise

Figure 3

Please explain the initial short

term rise in BHP in the injection
well and drop in BHP in the
production well? What is the
factor affecting this
phenomenon?
