Learning Objectives

Through a discussion, the students with 80% accuracy will be able to:

A. identified the parts of the circle;

B. illustrated a circle and the terms related to it: center, circumference, arc,
radius, diameter, chord, secant, and tangent;
C. applied the relationship between a central angle, inscribed angle and its
intercepted arc;
D. find the missing measures of inscribe angles, central angles, and its
intercepted arc; and
E. solved real life problems involving the concepts of circle.
Circle: A round plane figure whose boundary consists of points equidistant from a fixed point.
Center: The centre of the circle is the fixed point from which all points on the boundary of the circle are
equidistant.
Radius: The radius of the circle is half the diameter of the circle.
Diameter: The diameter is twice the radius.
Chord: A line segment going from one point of the circumference to another but does not go through the
centre.
Secant: A line that goes through the circle at two points.
Tangent: A straight line that touches the circle at a single point only.

Directions: Match column A with the corresponding item column B. Write the letter of your answer for
each number.(1 point each)

HOW ARE CENTRAL ANGLES AND INTERCEPTED
ARC OF CIRCLES RELATED AND APPLIED?
Intercepted arc, Inscribed angle and Central angle
The intercepted arc is a section of the circumference of a circle. It is encased on either side by two
different chords or line segments that meet at one point, called a vertex, on the other side of the circle or in the
middle of the circle. The angle formed by these two chords or line segments is called an inscribed angle or
a central angle depending on where the vertex lies.

Let’s Practice!
Directions: Show the relationship between the central angle and
intercepting the arc of a circle using the ⊙ F . Write it in a ½
crosswise. (2points each).
Central Angle

A central angle of a circle is

an angle between two radii with the
vertex at the center. In the following
diagram, ∠𝐴𝐵𝐶 is an example of a
central angle.
