Axiology

Axiology is the branch of philosophy that studies judgments about values,

and how these values come about in society.
Subject Matter (Axiology)

• The study of axiology aims to comprehend what

values are, how they arise, and how they interact • Axiology is important to the study of psychology
with other elements of the human experience, such because it sheds light on how values affect

will be respectful as the standards are

Instruction (Axiology)

Ways in which axiology can influence

• Value-based instruction: Axiology can inform the
instruction in the classroom: values that teachers seek to impart to their students
• Curriculum development: Axiology can through instruction. For example, a teacher who
values critical thinking may design instruction that

Logic

Logic is a branch of philosophy that studies the principles of reasoning and

argumentation. It is concerned with the analysis and evaluation of arguments
and seeks to provide a systematic and rigorous framework for thinking and
communicating clearly and effectively.
Instruction (Logic)
Ways in which logic can influence instruction in
• Mathematical instruction: Logic is closely tied to
the classroom: mathematics, and can influence the way teachers
• Problem-solving skills: Logic can be used to design instruction in this subject area. For example,

solutions. By learning to identify and evaluate
evidence, students can develop critical thinking • Science instruction: Logic is also closely tied to
skills that can be applied to a wide range of the scientific method, and can influence the way
teachers design instruction in this subject area. For
academic and real-world problems.
example, teachers can teach students to design
experiments that test hypotheses, evaluate data,
and draw conclusions.

involves examining a general case,
deducing a general set of rules or

specific cases.

concepts and ideas
Realism
• Realism prepares children for a happy and successful life.
It introduces the child to nature and the social environment, It also helps the
child's physical and mental abilities to grow.
• A teacher should be able to exposes the child to the external realities of
life.
The teacher must determine the child's interests and teach accordingly. He or
she should teach subjects in the correct order. He/she must be able to expose
and guide students through the harsh realities of life.
Pragmatism
Pragmatism places an emphasis on using ideas and information in the actual world to solve issues. Its
emphasis on problem-solving, critical thinking, and experiential learning makes it relevant to education.

• Experiential learning -This method encourages students to investigate, try new things, and use what they
have learned in real world situations rather than simply memorizing facts or theories.
• Problem solving - Students are encouraged to discover issues, examine them, and develop workable
solutions in a pragmatic classroom.
• Critical Thinking - Pragmatism emphasizes the importance of critical thinking skills, which enable
students to evaluate ideas and arguments and to make informed decisions.
Existentialism
Existentialism emphasizes individual existence, freedom and choice.
• Emphasis on individuality- Recognizing and respecting the individuality of each
student is important
• Education should help students discover and develop their unique identity and
personal meaning
• Students should be encouraged to make choices and take responsibility for the
consequences of their actions.
• Education should help students develop a sense of purpose and meaning in their
lives.
