Origins and
History
• Acupuncture is an ancient medical practice
that originated in China more than 2,500 years
ago. The practice involves the insertion of thin
needles into specific points on the body,
known as acupuncture points, to stimulate the
body's natural healing processes.

• The earliest recorded use of acupuncture dates


back to the Huangdi Neijing, or Yellow
Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine, which
was written around 200 BCE. This text outlines
the principles of traditional Chinese medicine,
including acupuncture, and describes the use
of acupuncture to treat a variety of illnesses.
• In the 1950s, acupuncture
gained recognition in the West
as an effective treatment for
pain relief, and in 1979, the
World Health Organization
(WHO) recognized acupuncture
as a valid medical treatment.
Today, acupuncture is used to
treat a variety of conditions,
including chronic pain,
migraines, infertility, and anxiety,
among others.

• The diseases that are treated with acupuncture are:
• Respiratory system diseases such as: cold, flu, tonsillitis,
asthma, pharyngitis.

• Digestive system diseases such as: spasms of the esophagus


and cardia, hiccups, irritable bowel, diarrhea, constipation.

• Diseases of the nervous system such as: migraine


headache, facial paralysis, trigeminal neuralgia, post-stroke
paralysis.

• Other pathological states such as: hypertension, sports


injuries, allergies, skin problems, addictive disorders,
conjunctivitis.
How effective it
is
• Although acupuncture is not a
treatment that "cure all," is very
effective in treating various
diseases and conditions.
Acupuncture is most effective in
treating chronic pain, such as
headaches, menstrual cramps,
and lower back, neck, or muscle
pain.
Problems or side
effects it may cause

• Some side effects that


acupuncture can cause can be
muscle pain, slight bleeding or
bruising at the site where the
needles were placed, headache.

• Even though acupuncture origin was on Asiatic
countries, it's propagation as a medical -
alternative remedy has expanded throw the
whole Earth, making it a well known remedy.
