INTRODUCTION

 Binominal Distribution was discovered by James

Bernoilli in 1738 which is known as ‘Bernoulli
Distribution’.
 This is a Discrete probability distribution.
 A discrete probability distribution (applicable to the
scenarios where the set of possible outcomes is
discrete, such as a coin toss or a roll of dice.)can be
encoded by a discrete list of probabilities of the
outcomes,known as probability mass function.
3
DEFINITION
If ‘x’ is a discrete random variable with probability mass function

Where X =1,2,3,………………n and q=1-p,then ‘X’ is a binominal variate and

the distribution of ‘X’ is called binominal distribution.
PRESENTATION TITLE

The algebraic expression which contains only two terms is

called binomial. If a coin tossed once there are only two
outcomes namely, tail or head ie.success or failure .

The probability of obtaining a head or p=

or q= .Thus (q+p)=1.These are terms of the binominal
(q+p).

Note that however we define success and failure, the two events mutually exclusive and complementary; that is
they cannot occur at the same time (mutually exclusive),and then sum of their probabilities is 100%
(complementary).

ASSUMPTIONS
• The random experiment is performed repeatedly a finite and fixed number
of trials,ie. n.
• The outcome of the random experiment(trials) results in the dichotomous
classification of events.(Success or failure). In other words the sample space
of possible outcomes on each experimental trial is :S={success,failure}
• All the trials are independent and mutually exclusive.
• The probability of success in any trial is p and is constant for each trial.
• q= 1-p is then termed as the probability of failure and is constant for each
trial.

WHY IS BINOMIAL DISTRIBUTION
PRESENTATION TITLE

IMPORTANT?
• Binomial distribution is used to figure the likelihood of a pass or fail
outcome in a survey or experiment replicated numerous times. There are
only two potential outcomes for this type of distribution. More broadly,
distribution is an important part of analyzing data sets to estimate all the
potential outcomes of the data and how frequently they occur. Forecasting
and understanding the success or failure of outcomes is essential to
business development.
