1. Unbiased Series Clipper

1.1 Unbiased Series positive clipper
A diode is connected in series with the output.
It removes or clips the positive half completely.

CASE 1 : During the positive half cycle of the input voltage (Vi>0):
The diode is reverse biased.
Diode acts as an open circuit.
Therefore all the applied voltage drops across the diode and none
across the resistor.
As a result of this there is no output voltage during the positive half
cycle of the input voltage (Vo=0).

CASE 2 : During the negative half cycle of the input voltage (Vi<0) :
The diode is forward biased.
Diode acts as a short circuit.
There is no voltage drop across diode (except for diode resistance).
Almost all of the input voltage is dropped across the resistor (Vo=Vi).
