What is Reservation ?

Reservation in India is all about


reserving access to seats in the
government jobs , educational
institutions, and even
legislatures to certain sections of
the population.
Objectives of reservation 

 Protect the fundamental rights.


 Show their presence/existence.
 Minimize the risk of discouragement due to caste
discrimination.
 Protect from the inferiority complex comes out of genetically
transferred information.
 Give them degrees and qualifications that they missed from
10,000+ years.
History

 The reservation system that exists today,


in its true sense, was introduced in 1933
when British Prime-Minister Ramsay
Macdonald presented the ‘Communal
Award’.
 The award made provision for separate
electorates for Muslims, Sikhs, Indian
Christians, Anglo-Indians, Europeans and
the Dalits.
Reservation system in Educational institutions in
India
 Reservation system or quota in context of Indian higher
education system basically means that a set percentage of seats
will be reserved in all universities and colleges for students who
belong to socially and educationally backward categories or
belong to different castes such as SC, ST and OBC.
 22.5% of the total no. Of the seat is reserved for applicants
belonging to SC and ST and relaxation to the extend of  5% .

Conclusion

Reservations were introduced in the Indian Education system as a


means for the overall development of the society. However, today
all sections of the society have been developed economically,
culturally and socially. Hence, the need for reservations is limited.
