What is big data analytics?

“Massive amount of data which cannot be stored, processed and analyzed using traditional tools is known as
big data”
- Big data also contain data of different formats like structure data, semi structure data and unstructured
data.

Types of big data analytics:-

- Descriptive analytics :- It summaries past data into a form that is interpretable


by humans. This analytics helps in creating reports like company’s revenue,
profit, sales and so on.
- Diagnostic analytics :- This analysis is done to understand why a problem has
occurred. It looks into the cause of the problem. This analysis is characterised by
techniques such as drill-down, data mining and data recovery. Query tools is one
of the tools used for diagnostic analysis.
- Predictive analytics :- It looks into the historical and present data to make
predictions of the future. It works on predicting the customer trends, market
trends and so on, this analysis works on probability.
- Prescriptive analytics :- This type of analysis prescribes the solution to a
particular problem. Most of the times prescriptive analytics relies on artificial
intelligence and machine learning.

1. Ecommerce :- Big data can be used smartly in the field of e-commerce by predicting customer trends,
forecasting demands, adjusting the price and so on.
2. Education :- In the field of education depending on the market requirements new courses are
developed. The market requirements needs to be analyzed correctly with respect to the scope of the
course and accordingly a scope needs to be developed.
3. Health care :- There are number of uses of big data analytics in the field of health care and one of is to
predict a patient’s health issue that is with help of there previous medical history.
4. Media and entertainment :- Big data analytics used to provide personalised recommendation list to all
its user. In field of media and entertainment big data analytics is used to understand the demands and
shows songs movie and so on to deliver personalised recommendation list as we saw with Spotify.
5. Banking :- Customer income and spend patterns help in predicting the customer likelihood for
choosing various banking offers like loans, credit card schemes and so on.
6. Telecommunication :- Big data analytics is used to forecast network capacity and improve customer
experience in the field of telecommunication.
