1 INTRODUCTION
1.1 Rationale

• English is the most used language in the world. Firstly, there are
a lot of good study materials from educational institutions, big
universities are written in English. More than half of the
websites on the Internet are also written in English, such as
newspapers. , tools, global services on the network. Learning
English well will help you learn a lot about the culture and meet
many new foreign friends and gives you the opportunity to work
with foreigners and get a good job. This is one of the biggest
benefits that shows how important it is to learn English.

• Aims of the research
• The purpose of the study is to find out a method for soiving the difficulties
and obstacles in learning English listening of second-year students of the
English Department of Quang Nam University.
• Objectives of the research
• To reach the aims of the research, there are three tasks need to be done
• - Investigate ways and methods that second-year English students are
using to practice listening skills.
• - Survey the teaching methods of teachers to help students improve their
listening skills.
• - Use information technology to help students practice their English
listening

• To achieve the objectives above, the research will be done to answer three
following questions
• 1. What do second-year English students need to do to practice listening
skills?

• 2. How do teachers' teaching methods help students improve their
listening skills?
• 3. What benefits do students receive when using information
technology to practice listening?

1.4 Scope of the research
• Scope of the research: all 2nd year English language
students at Quang Nam University.
2. LITERATURE REVIEW
• Research on listening skills has been studied by
William Doverspike, Jakobi E. , Jacobsneed and
Francisco J. Vare and many others. These studies talk
about the reasons why students cannot hear and offer
methods to help students improve their listening skills.
Besides, they emphasize that listening practice in
learning English is very important because it is the
source to help you learn English faster and can help
you understand the person who is talking to you.
3. METHODOLOGY
• We use mixed methods in combination of quantitative and
qualitative appioaches to carry out the research.
