Carbon emissions has a dramatic effect on

future U.S. temperatures

Gavin Sandel
Emmett Ricker
We examined the past temperatures, carbon emissions, and
future temperatures; taking close examination of three
different cities.

Past US Temperatures Carbon Emissions Future US Temperatures

2
Examining U.S. carbon emissions and temperatures allows
for people to get a handle on the correlation of the two.

3
In the United States…
Research Questions: How have carbon emissions impacted present
temperatures?
How have the frequency of heat-related
events changed since 1980?
Comparing past and future temperatures in
selected cities
What is in store for the future?

4
We looked at 2 different data sets from NARCCAP on the
RCM3-GFDL driving model.

5
We looked at past temperature trends in three different U.S. cities.

6
Using the same NARCCAP data sets we examined the past
and future data from each city

7
We also looked at past heat wave trends in 3 U.S. cities

8
The difference in temperature from the past data and the
future data shows an overall increase in temperatures.

9
Since 1980, city-specific temperatures have increased.
For heat waves, the correlation is significantly less.

We were able to get a messy dataset… To ones that showed a trend Thanks to this.

Conclusions:
Key Takeaways: Improvements:
1. Carbon Emissions have a profound effect on 1. The addition of using cartopy for the map plots.
temperature increase. 2. The inclusion of a carbon emissions for the future
2. However based on our data there is no noticeable decade dataset.
increase on heatwaves. 3. Overall housekeeping of code used.
3. For each of the cities there is an increase in
temperatures based on future projections.
