What is Demographic Transition Model (DTM)?

The Demographic Transition Model

(DTM) shows the changes in the patterns of
birth rates and death rates to suggest that
a country‘s total population growth rate
cycles through stages as that country
develops economically.
The demographic transition model is
typically divided into four stages.

Stage 1 – Highly fluctuating

Stage 2 – Early Expanding
Stage 3 – Late Expanding
Stage 4 – Low fluctuating
Death rate
Birth rate
Total Population
As you are examining the stages of
demographic transition model, remember
that:

POPULATION = BIRTH RATE – DEATH RATE
