SURVEYING

Using surveying fundamentals the area of the plot has been measured.
The area of the plot = 4309 Square feet. i.e. 478.78 sq. Yards, 9.97 cents ≈ 10 cents.
SOIL INVESTIGATION
Introduction:
 Sampler:- spilt spoon sampler
In order to find out the bearing capacity of soil and to decide suitable foundation type the
sub soil investigation has been carried out with the following
 Soil boring of 150 mm diameter upto10 meters depth in one location.
 Collection of undisturbed and disturbed soil samples from the bore.
 Conducting standard penetration test (SPT) at regular intervals within the bore.
 Testing of undisturbed and disturbed soil samples collected from the bore in the
laboratory.

Soil investigation Contractor : V M Engineering works, Vijayawada.

Engineering Consultancy : V R Siddhartha Engineering college, Vijayawada.
SOIL CLASSIFICATION AND CORECTED N-VALUES
RECOMMENDATIONS

Based on the soil investigation and related tests the following 3 alternatives have been
given to select the foundation.
ALTERNATIVE 1: OPEN FOUNDATION.(AS PER IS:2911-1984 -1 )
 Open foundation in the form of isolated footing/raft foundation is foundation is proposed.
 A total depth of foundation of 2.50 – 3.50 meters below the EGL is proposed.
 An allowable bearing capacity of 60 kn/m2 [6.0 t/m2] is recommended for at 2.00 m for
the isolated footing and 7.0 t/m2 for the raft foundation.
 An allowable bearing capacity of 50 kn/m2 [5.0 t/m2] is recommended for at 3.00 m for
the isolated footing and 6.0 t/m2 for the raft foundation.
 An allowable bearing capacity of 90 kn/m2 [9.0 t/m2] is recommended for at 4.00 m for
the isolated footing and 10.0 t/m2 for the raft foundation.
ALTERNATIVE 2 : UNDER-REAMED PILE
Under-reamed pile foundation is also suitable at this location. The load carrying
capacity of these piles will be as follows.(as per IS:2911-1984 - 4)

Size of the pile Depth below cap Safe load capacity in

300mm double under reamed pile 5.00 16
380mm double under reamed pile 5.00 24

380mm double under reamed pile 5.25 25
300mm double under reamed pile 5.50 19
380mm double under reamed pile 5.50 27
ALTERNATIVE 3: BORED CAST-IN-SITU PILE
Bored cat-in-situ pile foundation is also suitable at this location. 450mm, 500mm
and 600mm diameter pile of 9.00m long are considered. The load carrying capacity
of these piles will be as follows. (as per IS:2911-1984 -2)

Loads considered:- The code used for the loading is IS:875 as follows:
1. Dead loads (Part – I)
2. Imposed loads (Part – II)
3. Wind loads(Part – III)
4. Snow loads(Part – IV)
5. Special loads and loads combinations(Part – V)
6. Earthquake loads. ( As per IS:1893-1984).
Load cases:-
 Dead load, Imposed load,
 RIL (reduced imposed loads)
 EPX (earthquake parallel to x direction)
 TPX (torsion parallel to x direction)
 EPZ (earthquake parallel to z direction)
 WPX (wind load parallel to x direction)
Load combinations:-
 1.50 DL + 1.50 IL
 1.50 DL + 1.50 EPX + 1.50 TPX
 0.90 DL + 1.50 EPX + 1.50 TPX

 CONCLUSIONS:-
 It is observed from the results obtained for the plan of G+3 residential building
that, it is drafted as per building bye-laws by following the National Building
Code 2017. the plan was drafted using layers in Auto CAD 2010 and it was
imported to Build Master software.
 It is analysed as per IS 456:2000, IS 875(part-1,2& 3), IS 1893:2002, IS
13920:1993 by BUILD MASTER as it takes so much time to analyse these kind
of structures manually.
 It is advantageous software by comparing with staad.pro and we can observe
plans and design layouts and reinforcement detailing only in this software.
 The results are obtained from Build Master output; hence the analysis is
satisfactory for the given geometry.
