• The basic functions performed by living organisms to
maintain their life is called as life processes.
• The 4 main life processes are :
Nutrition
Respiration
Transportation

• The process of intake of nutrients and utilizing them for the
growth and development of body.

Heterotrophic mode of nutrition
• Saprophytic Nutrition: The type of nutrition in which organisms derive
their food by dead and decaying plants and animals. For eg: Mushroom,
yeast, Bread mould.

• Parasitic Nutrition: It is a type of nutrition in which organisms live on or


inside the bodies of their hosts and feed on them. For eg: Leech,
Tapeworm.

• Holozoic Nutrition: Means feeding on solid food. The nutrition in which


organisms ingest complex organic food and convert into simpler forms
and get absorbed by cells. For eg: humans, animals, amoeba.
