Why UWT
• General evaluation of health
• Diagnosis of disease or disorders of the
kidneys or urinary tract
• Monitoring of patients with diabetes
Examination of physical characteristics

• Color
• Apearance
• Odor
• Reaction/pH
• Specific gravity ( The refractometer,
Urinometer or a reagent strip is used to
measure specific gravity)
Normal findings of urine
• Colour – Pale Yellow or Amber Colour
• Appearance/ turbidity - Clear
• Reaction – Acidic PH -4.6- 8
• Odor – aromatic odor Smells Like ammonia
due to presence of volatile acids

Urenometer for examine Urine SG
Chemical Examination
• Sugar –Negative
• Protein – Negative
• Ketones – Negative
Urine Sugar-Colour changing
Precipitation Albumin level
• No precipitate -Nil
• Slightly cloudy -Trace
• Less cloudy –Protein+
• Moderate cloudy curd like- Protein 2+
• Like white protein of the egg – Protein 3+
