INTRODUCTION TO ART APPRECIATION COURSE

Liberal Studies Courses


Art Appreciation is part of many courses offered by Liberal Studies Department of Faculty of Art and Design. Most Liberal Studies courses focused on historical, critical thinking, methodology, aesthetic and psychology in art and design. Art Appreciation is one of the methodology used by artists, art historians, and critics to value and appreciate the works of art. Art Appreciation is also a theoretical studies as much as other courses offered by Liberal Studies.

Course Description
This course is aimed to introduce students to the basic understanding of art appreciation. Course involves the studies of elements of form and content through many works produced in Ancient, Classical, Modern, Post Modern, and Contemporary eras.

Course Outcome
At the end of the course, students should be able to: 1. To gather knowledge in the development of style in art and design. 2. To understand the appreciation of art based on the aspects of form, context and meaning. 3. To be able to use the knowledge and apply in any form of art works.

Week 02 Understanding Art as Form and Content Week 03 Studying the Formalistic Aspects and Content Week 04 Understanding Style Week 05 Presentation : Descripting, Analysing, Interpreating, and Judging an artwork 6. Week 06 Ancient Art Part I 7. Week 07 Test 1 8. Mid-term break (1 week) 9. Week 08 Ancient Art Part II 10. Week 09 Classical Art Part I 11. Week 10 Classical Art Part II

Course Delivery
