Field Training Program?
Learning Goals
“At the end of this lecture: FTP/FTX participants will be able
to familiarize themselves with the general provisions of the
Field Training Program (FTP); and fully understand the
adapted concept as indicated in the FTP Manual in
consonance to the approved amendment. “

in performing his complex duties efficiently in terms
of education, training and evaluation;

Police Recruit – One who had graduated from a six (6) month
Police Basic Recruit Course and is a candidate for the six (6)
month PNP Field Training Program.
Definition of Terms
Regional FTO Selection Board (RFSB)- is a group created
at the regional level to undertake screening and evaluation of
those potential FTOs to ensure that they possess the
criteria/qualifications so that competent and values-oriented
FTOs shall handle PT during the latter`s FTX/OJT.
Traffic Phase – A one (1) month phase in the PNP FTP wherein
a police recruit experiences enforcing traffic laws, spotting and
apprehending traffic violators, issuing traffic citation tickets,
assisting motorist or pedestrians and preserving the peace and
order in the streets.

Field Training Program Phases
PATROL
Patrol is considered the backbone of the police
service.
-It is one of the main reasons why police organizations
exist.
-- Police officers have the duty to go around a populated
area for purposes of security and observation.
-- They have to go out by foot or in motor vehicles in
crime prone areas within their respective beats to look
for and apprehend criminals or law violators or to
respond to citizens under threat or calling for
assistance.

Objectives
At the end of the Patrol Phase, a police recruit is
expected to perform the following tasks with a high degree
of efficiency and expertise:
•Develop his patrol skills required of a beat patrol officer;
•Demonstrate proper and correct procedure in the conduct
of foot or mobile patrol operations;
•Display proper usage of radio codes and radio operation;

•Use appropriate arrest techniques, hand-to-hand
combat, and weapons skills in every operation;
•Learn how to drive with skill and dexterity;
•Use proper grammar, syntax as well as provide factual,
accurate and detailed information when writing
incident reports;
•Apply his knowledge of Philippine laws, rules and
regulations in every activity;

TRAFFIC
Introduction
One of the perennial problems plaguing the country
each year is the worsening traffic conditions, especially
in urban areas. Hence, proper traffic implementation by
members of the PNP will greatly affect and improve our
economy.
The Traffic Phase of the FTP is a four (4) week on-the-
job training course. Police recruits shall experience
traffic enforcement operations, under the guidance of
trained traffic FTOs.

Objectives
At the end of the Traffic Phase, a police recruit is
expected to perform the following tasks with a high
degree of efficiency and expertise:

Introduction:
The PNP based on its mandate conducts
investigation in order to identify the suspect, to locate
his whereabouts and to provide evidence of his guilt.
The activity combines practical and scientific
approaches in gathering facts and evidences needed for
a successful prosecution of the case against a suspect.

A police recruit is expected to perform the following

•Develop an analytical and inquisitive mind needed
for crime investigation activities;
•Implement proper and correct procedure in crime
scene processing;
•Exhibit a professional and accurate technique when
identifying and interviewing suspects;
