 INTRODUCTION

Global biodiversity loss has a significant negative

effect on ecosystem services and, consequently, on
human well-being. The coral triangle, which includes the
Philippines, has around 30% of the world's coral reefs
and is home to the greatest variety of species.

 Human activities are hazardous to the majority of the
coral reefs in the Philippines. Marine protected areas
(MPAs) can be established to reduce human activity
and so safeguard marine biodiversity. According to a
research, MPAs can improve a coral reef's condition,
which in turn increases fish diversity and quantity.

 Philippines is probably the most vulnerable country
because the reef is highly threatened, the economy
depends very much on all marine life and the people
have low capacity to adapt to the loss of products and
services provided by the reefs.

 This study looks at the effectiveness of Marine
Protected Area at Barangay Potoson Baleno Masbate,
Philippines to bring awareness of the importance and
the long-term effect of having a Marine Protective
Area/Marine Sanctuary in a certain place.

 For gathering information about the topic, the
researchers will conduct interviews and survey to
fisherfolks and barangay officials in-charge of the
aquatic marine protected area of Brgy. Potoson. Data
will be collected and analyzed.

 This research study may lead an information on
the advantages of marine protected areas/marine
sanctuary and its benefits for fisheries, local
economies and the marine environment.

 DATA GATHERING PROCEDURES
The researches will conduct interview and
survey to the fisherfolks and barangay
officials in-charge of the aquatic field of
Barangay Potoson Baleno Masbate.

 INSTRUMENTATION
Data from the survey form will be collected
and sort out. Data from the interview will be
analyzed through collaborative group
discussion.
