Module Information
Lectorials:
Two lectorials per week. One pre-recorded and one on campus. The recordings
will be made available every Monday and you should watch them before your
tutorial in the following week.
On campus sessions will require you to have access to the slides which are
available through Blackboard.
Tutorials
Similar to the workshop sessions but in smaller groups and hopefully with more
opportunity for small group work and discussion.
On-line resources:
Blackboard contains all the information for the course. Lecture and tutorial
information will be available as required. The answers to the workbook
questions will appear the week after the session. In addition interactive
activities will be available to help you.
Learning Outcomes
• Broadly:
o Introduce you to the language of accounting
o Introduce you to the organisation and structure of business entities and the
constraints in which they operate
o Help you understand the role of accounting and the accountant
o Prepare basic financial statements (main focus of first six weeks)
o Introduce you to ratio analysis and the interpretation of accounting statements
(main focus of weeks 7-9)
o Other contents of the annual report
o Sources of finance
