Careterra’s van
NOMAD SCHOOL

We are currently building a prototype of an one-of-a-kind van that

features:
● a mobile library + outdoor cinema
● a nomadic workshop
● a charging station
● a pop-up community kitchen
● and so much more

It will be the first mobile, self-sufficient, off-the-grid school in

Greece that will use exclusively solar energy to run its activities.

We want to inspire other students to join or other student

communities to do the same!
NOMAD SCHOOL Philosophy

The project shares New European Bauhaus values:

1. sustainability, from climate goals to circularity, zero pollution,

and biodiversity;
2. aesthetics, quality of experience and style beyond
functionality;
3. inclusion, from valuing diversity to securing accessibility and
affordability by collective intergenerational actions unlocking
every member’s potential;
How could NOMAD SCHOOL
help communities achieve their goals?

NOMAD SCHOOL transforms open public spaces into inclusive

common spaces by embracing a participatory design methodology. It
becomes a space where people use the van to meet their needs by
adapting community activities to practically any setting
(interior/outdoor, urban/rural, off-grid, insular/mainland, ...)

The project engages participants through action-based learning in

their own familiar environment, while developing and stimulating
local socio-economic activities through the promotion of each
region's distinct character -natural and cultural resources, traditions,
music, local history and handcrafts.
Advantages & Impacts of a highly
reproducible project with a
modular/versatile nature
A substantial impact on multiple levels:

1. Cognitive-educational: using a multifunctional van as an

alternative co-learning tool
2. Social: increased interaction between social groups creates
social capital
3. Health: being outdoors in nature
4. Environmental: Sustainable upcycled off-grid design
5. Bridging technology with artistic expression
6. Entrepreneurial
7. …
