ABSTRATCT
We did some research about magnetic compass and
its componants. We learned about how does it works
and its long history

The magnetic compass has been used in navigation

for more than 1,000 years and will probably be used
for another
 PURPOSE
 Magnetic Compass have been vital for
Maritime Industry
 Compasses point magnetic north which is not
the centre of north pole
 Compass deviations occur due to vessel's own
equipment
 These errors can be fixed easly by using simple
formula called C D M V T

CONCEPTİON
 A Compass is a device that shows the
cardinal directions used for navigation and
geographic orientation

 The way today’s magnetic compass works is

no different than the compass used by our
ancestors.
 The reasons todays compasses
are superior due to:
 1) Better knowledge of laws of
magnetism which govern the
behaivour of the compass
 2) Greater precision in the
construction of the compass
 3) Better means to control
damping of the compass needle.
 4) A magnetic field is a vector
field that describes the
magnetic effect on moving
electric charges, electric
currents, and magnetic
materials.
 5)A magnet cannot have only
one pole. Magnetic line force
starts from the North Pole and
end at the South Pole
