In the context of ‘Night’ by Elie Wiesel

Hridai Madhukar
Eliezer’s faith

• Eliezer was a 15 year old young boy brought up in a Jewish household which made
him a firm believer in God and the teachings of the Hebrew Bible.

• The Holocaust brought a change in Eliezer as he started to question his faith.

• Night is a coming of age story
Crisis of Faith

• The suffering and cruelty that Eliezer witnessed.

• He met people who were going through the same crisis has was.
• Observance and belief were unquestioned parts of his core sense of identity, so once
his faith is irreparably shaken, he becomes a completely different person.
