History
The valleys and trails of what is now known as Daley Ranch
were used for centuries by Native Americans of the
Kumeyaay, Luiseno, and smaller tribes.
The first recorded European settler to arrive in the valley
was a young English immigrant named Robert Daley. He
settled into this valley around 1869 and built a small cabin.
After a federal survey of the land in 1875, Robert Daley’s
claim to the land was reaffirmed and he was granted two
official claims of 160 acres each. Over the years he
constructed other dwellings, like barns and water towers.
In 1996, the Escondido City Council voted to purchase and
forever protect the 3,058-acre ranch as a habitat preserve.

The idea of the project came about through
my friends who brainstormed many ideas of
places to go to and found that Daley Ranch
was a perfect spot for Urban Exploration.

Reflectio Although there was plenty of hiking and I

got sunburnt during the trip, I enjoyed
traversing the old trails and feeling the

n history of the area. It felt adventurous

walking on old trails and finding old
buildings, restored and broken down. I
found that taking trips with friends that
involve exploration and discovery can feel
purposeful and fascinating.
Would do again!
