What is RFID :
• RFID stand for Radio Frequency Identification.
• RFID is similar to barcode system the only difference is barcode uses
laser light and RFID uses radio frequency
• Product information or user identification is stored in RFID tag.
• RFID tag respond to radio signal & provide product information.
• This tag has a small inbuild memory around 16bit to hundreds of kb.
Components of RFID :
Basic Components of RFID are as follows:

• Tag
• Antenna
• Reader
• Computer
1)Tag :
• The RFID tags are micro chips .
• RFID tag receive radio sig nal sent by RFID reader.
• After that RFID tag transmit its information to RFID reader using inbuilt antenna.
• There are two types of RFID tags: 1) Active
2) Passive

2)Antenna:
• When RFID tag is in the range of RFID reader send a signal to tag using Antenna.
• After this reader obtain information from tag & send to computer.

3)Computer :
• An application software is installed in host PC to manage communication between reader and computer.
• It maintain a database of all RFID tags for different applications.
• Using this application user can filter & transfer the data.
RFID operation:
• RFID (radio frequency identification) is a technique facilitating identification of any product or
item without the requirement of any line of sight amid transponder and reader.

• RFID Structure is continuously composed of 2 main hardware components. The transponder

which is located on the product to be scanned and the reader which can be either just a reader or a
read & write device, depending upon the system design, technology employed and the
requirement. The RFID reader characteristically comprise of a radio frequency module, a
controlling unit for configurations, a monitor and an antenna ti investigate the RFID tags. In
addition, a number of RFID readers are in-built with an extra interface allowing them to forward
the data received to another system (control system or PC).

• RFID Tag – The actual data carrying tool of an RFID structure, in general comprise of an antenna
(coupling element) and an electronic micro-chip.
Applications of RFID

• The applications of RFID are as follows:

• Inventory management
• Inventory Control
• Cargo & Supply chain logistic
• Vehicle Tracking
• Customer Services & loss control
• Access control in security situations
• Shipping
• HealthCare
• Manufacturing
• Retail sales
• Tap-and-go credit card payments.
