To get a Knowledge of how AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL plays

an important role in the working of AIR TRAFFIC in AAI.
Introduction to ATC
• ATC is a service provided by ground based controller who
direct the aircraft.
• Formed on 1st April 1995 under the airport authority of india.
• It is responsible for the separation and efficient movt of
aircraft.
• It provides Air Traffic Management(ATM) services over
Indian Airspace and adjoining oceanic areas.

• It also manages the movement of vehicles on runways &

aircraft in the air near the airport(5-10 nautical miles .
ATC TOWER
• .
DSCN(Dedicated Satellite Communication Network)
DSCN is a dedicated satellite communication network used to communicate between
every airport around the world for data communication.

It works under communication and surveillance.

Frequency band is from 6388 to 6408Mhz.

It has an outdoor unit an indoor unit.

PUPOSES OF DSCN
To provide security.
To reduce manpower.
It is economical.
AMSS(Automatic Message Switching System)
 AMSS is a computer based system centred on the AFTN for exchange of aeronautical
messages by means of auto switching for distribution of messages to its destination which
works on store and forward.

 AMSS Main Parts

• System: AMSS is a dual architecture computer based system which consists of few servers
and workstations which are linked to each other over a LAN as well as other
equipment/devices for data communication.
• Messages: AMSS is mainly for exchange of AFTN messages, but at the same time AMSS can
handle some non-AFTN messages like AMS messages (formally known as HFRT/Radio
messages).
• Switching: AMSS receives the messages from the terminals connected via other switches,
and after analysing, stores the messages as well as automatically retransmits the messages
to their destination.
ASMGCS
Stands for ADVANCE SURFACE MOVEMENT GUIDANCE CONTROL
SYSTEM.
Provides complete picture of airport surface (live videos & imaging).
Improves controller situational awareness & increases the level of safety at
the airport.
This is done with the help of sensors for sensing obstructions on the
aircraft taxiway.
AIRPORT VIEW FOR ASMGCS
.
ASMGCS-USE
There are 2 sensors used in ASMGCS.
SMR(SURFACE MOVEMENT RADAR.
MLAT (Multilateration RADAR.
It rotates at the speed of 60 RPM.
23 RU’s are required to get exact location of a plane.
Each RU is capable of receiving signal@1090MHz Frequency.
RADARS AT ATC
1)PRIMARY RADAR(SURFACE MOVT RADAR)

No role of target.

Detection range up to 60NM.
Frequency range between 2 to 4GHz
Rotate at 15rpm.
Consume more power.
SURFACE MOVEMENT RADAR
RADARS AT ATC
2)SECONDARY RADAR( Multilateration RADAR)

Target has no participation in detecting process.

Target uses a transponder to detect signals.
Detection range 220NM.
Frequency range between 1 to 2 GHz.
Operates at 5rpm.
Consumes less power.
