    Photosynthesis is the process by which plants and some bacteria use sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water to produce oxygen and energy in the form of glucose. Early cyanobacteria produced oxygen through photosynthesis, changing the Earth's atmosphere from one dominated by carbon dioxide and other gases into one with significant oxygen levels. Photosynthesis occurs through a chemical process at the molecular level that converts light energy from the sun, carbon dioxide, and water into oxygen and organic compounds like glucose through the use of chlorophyll inside plant chloroplasts.
