LITERATURE REVIEW (CHAPTER TWO)

A literature review is a critical summary and assessment of the recent existing


materials dealing with knowledge and understanding in a given field or
research project.

A literature review is a study of the already existing research in a given area


of study.
 Integrate the study into broader framework with relevant theory of research
 Avoid duplication by Identifying what had already been done
 Identify the gap i.e. what has been done and what has not yet.

 Summarize the recent authoritative literature on proposed research


project in as far as it relates to your research problem

 Indicate the shortcomings of the previous literature

• It demonstrates that you understand the issue you’re investigating.

• A literature review allows you to develop a more theoretical

framework for your research. 

• It justifies your research and shows the gaps present in the current
