What is Media?
MEDIA
-media is the plural form of medium

1. Source
a person, group or entity that forms, creates, sends, or forwards a message or information.
2. Message
the the stimulus or meaning produced by the source for the receiver or audience
(McLean, 2005).
3. Channel
the tool or manner in which the messages will be carried through from the
source to the receiver
4. Reciever
receives the message from the source, analyzing and interpreting the
message in ways both intended and unintended by the source (McLean, 2005)

the message or response of the receiver which is sent back to the source
6. Environment
the atmosphere, physical and psychological, where you send and
receive messages (McLean, 2005)
7. Context
the communication interaction involves the setting, scene, and expectations

anything that blocks or changes the source’s intended meaning of the
message (McLean, 2005)
FORMS OF COMMUNICATION
1. Intrapersonal Communication
Example:
a person may use self-talk to calm himself down in a stressful
situation, or a shy person may remind herself to smile during a social
event.
2. Interpersonal Communication
Example:
When you take the time to ask your friend about weekend plans, or
your colleague invites you to dinner, or you exchange text messages with a
friend—
Example:
In a webinar or a seminar, a person or a company present an idea,
product or service to a group of interested people or customers.
During the course of the webinar, questions are asked and interaction is very
high as all the members are connected to a common cause or idea.
4. Public Communication
Example:
Seminars, press conferences, political campaigns, and public speaking
events.
Political campaigns and public speaking events typically use radio, newspaper, and
television to share ideas with the public.

• Example:
• Television, radio, social media, and print media are common channels of
communication. Mass communication takes place through advertising,
filmmaking, photography, public relations, journalism, and political
campaigning.
