Part of Stage

Reporter: Ronna Mae E. Sobron

Upstage

The area of the stage furthest from the audience. It is toward or at the rear of a theatrical stage. What did the actors do in upstage? It is to
overshadow the performer by moving upstage and forcing the performer to turn away from the audience. To outdo professionally, socially, etc. to
behave snobbishly toward.
Downstage

The area of the stage closest to the audience. When an actor is downstage or moves downstage, he or she is or moves towards the
front part of the stage.
Stage Left and right

Stage right and stage left are the actor's right and left, not the audience's. When you're standing in the middle of the stage with your
face toward the audience, stage right is the area of the stage to your right, and stage left is the area of the stage to your left.
Center Stage

The center of the playing area. Where actors and actress performed.

Center Line
An imaginary reference line on the playing area that indicates the exact center of the stage, travelling from up to downstage.
Onstage

The portion of the playing area visible to the audience.

Offstage

The area surrounding the playing space not visible to the audience. Typically this refers to spaces accessible to the performers but not the audience, such as the wings, crossovers, and voms.
