HOME SAFETY

What are home hazards?

Home is supposed to be a place where you feel safe

and secure. Unfortunately, the home is also a place
where many accidents occur.
What are some hazardous areas at
home?

Anything inside your house that can move, fall, break, or

cause a fire during an emergency is a home hazard.
1. Kitchen
Kitchens are great for preparing
and enjoying meals but they also
usually contain quite a few
potential hazards. Hot ovens and
stovetops, electrical appliances,
and sharp utensils are among the
potential dangers that are
commonly found in the kitchen.
2. Bathroom
Bathrooms are frequently used room in most homes. Some
common accidents that happen in bathrooms include falling on
slippery surfaces, poisoning from various medications, and
injuries from various personal care items like razors or curling
irons.
3. Stairs
Falls are the number-one
cause of accidental injury in
children. Keeping floors and
stairs safe is one of the best
ways to prevent injuries
related to falling.
4. Electrical Outlets
Electric outlets are sources of electricity. It is dangerous to
play around near electrical outlets. Getting tripped by a
connecting chord or inserting objects inside the holes might
increase your risk of experiencing an electric shock.
5. Electrical Appliances
Electrical appliances should be
used with adult supervision. If not
in use, make sure that the chord is
unplugged to prevent the danger
of getting caught up by fire due to
faulty wirings or object
malfunction.
6. Furniture
Furniture that children pull or
climb on can be another source
of danger. Unsecured pieces of
furniture and appliances can tip
over onto a child and cause
severe injury
7. Household Chemical Products
Licking, eating, and drinking or sometimes smelling these
products will cause illness or even death. These products
should be stored properly out of the sight and reach of
children.
UNDERSTANDING
HAZARD SYMBOLS
Hazard symbols are on the labels of many products in
and around your home and garage, like cooking spray,
cleaning products, paint thinners, drain cleaners, and
windshield washer fluid.
