FIRST,

HIS KINGDOM
Matthew 6:10
Matthew 6:33
Matthew 6:10

your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth
as it is in heaven.
Matthew 6:33

But seek
first his kingdom and his
righteousness, and all these
things will be given to you as
well.
• The primary meaning of malkuth
(Hebrew) and basileia (Greek) is
the authority, reign, or rule of a
king.
•The kingdom of God is the sphere
of God’s rule (Psalm 22:28)
Psalm 22:27-28

• All the ends of the earth will

remember and turn to the LORD,
and all the families of the nations
will bow down before him,
for dominion belongs to the LORD
and he rules over the nations.
GOD AS THE GREAT AND MIGHTY
KING
•Exodus 15:18 “The Lord reigns
for ever and ever.”
•Psalm 24:10 “Who is he, this
King of glory? The Lord Almighty
– he is the King of glory.”
GOD AS THE GREAT AND MIGHTY
KING
•  1 Timothy 1:17 Now to the King eternal,
immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor
and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
• Revelation 19:6 Then I heard what sounded
like a great multitude, like the roar of
rushing waters and like loud peals of
thunder, shouting: “Hallelujah! For our Lord
God Almighty reigns.
JESUS REIGNS IN OUR HEARTS
• The kingdom is the theme of the

New Testament. The first sermon in
the New Testament was from John
the Baptist, “Repent, because the
kingdom of heaven has come
near” (Matt. 3:2).
JESUS REIGNS IN OUR HEARTS
• The beginning of the ministry of

Jesus was characterized by preaching
this message. “From then on Jesus
began to preach, ‘Repent, because
the kingdom of heaven has come
near!’” (Matt. 4:17).
JESUS REIGNS IN OUR HEARTS
•Although Jesus never specifically
defined the Kingdom, He
illustrated it through parables
(Matthew 13; Mark 4) and
demonstrated its presence and
power in His ministry.
JESUS REIGNS IN OUR HEARTS
• Every description of Jesus Christ as Lord is a
reminder that Christ is ruler of the kingdom of God.
• Luke 17:20-21 Once, on being asked by the
Pharisees when the kingdom of God would
come, Jesus replied, “The coming of the kingdom of
God is not something that can be observed, 21 nor
will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because
the kingdom of God is within you.”
• The Kingdom is variously described
as “kingdom of heaven” (Matthew
13:11), “kingdom of God” (Mark
4:11), “kingdom of Christ and of
God” (Ephesians 5:5), and “kingdom
of our Lord and of his Christ”
(Revelation 11:15).
•  From the various contexts of the word
kingdom in the Gospels, the rule of God is
seen as
(1) a present realm or sphere into which
people are entering now and
(2) a future apocalyptic order into which
the righteous will enter at the end of the
age
JESUS WILL REIGN IN THE KINGDOM
TO COME
• Luke 21:27-28 At that time they will see
the Son of Man coming in a cloud with
power and great glory.  When these
28

lift up your heads, because your
redemption is drawing near.”
JESUS WILL REIGN IN THE KINGDOM
TO COME
• Luke 21:31 Even so, when you
see these things happening, you
know that the kingdom of God is
near.
JESUS WILL REIGN IN THE KINGDOM
TO COME
Titus 2:11-14 For the grace of God has
appeared that offers salvation to all
people.  It teaches us to say “No” to
12

ungodliness and worldly passions, and

to live self-controlled, upright and
godly lives in this present age,
JESUS WILL REIGN IN THE KINGDOM
TO COME
•  13 while we wait for the blessed hope—the
appearing of the glory of our great God
and Savior, Jesus Christ, 14 who gave
himself for us to redeem us from all

people that are his very own, eager to do
what is good.

Christ, 15 which God will bring about in his own
time—God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of
kings and Lord of lords, 16 whoalone is immortal and
who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one
has seen or can see. To him be honor and might
forever. Amen.
JESUS WILL REIGN IN THE KINGDOM
TO COME
• Revelation 11:15 The seventh angel
sounded his trumpet, and there were loud
voices in heaven, which said:
“The kingdom of the world has become
the kingdom of our Lord and of his
Messiah, and he will reign for ever and
ever.”
