CORROSIO
N
 Corrosion ordinarily begins at the surface.
 A destructive and unintentional degradation of a
material caused by its environment.
o Change in the physical appearance material.
o Change in chemical properties.
o Lose of the efficiency of materials.
o A decrease in the life span of metallic objects.

Occurrence of
Corrosion
01 Generalized Corrosion

At the surface

02 Localized Corrosion
Specific area
01 Generalized Corrosion

This uniform corrosion over the entire surface

of the metal is rare and leads to overall thinning
which has little effect outside of fatigue and
stress conditions.
02 Localized Corrosion

This type of corrosion attack is hard to

prevent, and often difficult to detect before
structural failure is met due to cracking.
