Producers ,

consumers &
decomposers

un
Producers

 Producers are living things that make their own food.

 Producers are always plants.

 Plants make their own food through a process known as photosynthesis.

 Photosynthesis is what occurs when plants take in light and carbon

dioxide and create sugar and oxygen for us to breath.

deux
Consumers

 Consumers are organisms that need to eat other organisms to survive. An

example of this is the food chain above.

 The plankton is eaten by the jellyfish and the jellyfish is eaten by the turtle.

 Of course, this is not the only thing the turtle eats and in the same way, there

are things higher on the food chain than the turtle (example: a shark).

trois
Decomposers

 Last but not least, we have decomposers.

 These creatures are scavengers and are usually omnivores.

 They feed on dead animals and plants to sustain themselves. Even

though that doesn’t seem important, these are one of the most

important parts of the food chain.

 When they eat, they break up their food into simple substances

containing nutrients and plant them into the soil for producers and for

the process to repeat.
