TYPES OF

SPEECH TEXT
According to Martin Joos (1976:156),
speech style is the form of language
that the speaker uses which
characterized by the degree of
formality.
According to Joos (1976),
speech style is divided into five
forms. They are frozen style,
formal style, consultative
style, casual style and intimate
style.
FROZEN STYLE
Frozen speech is used generally in a very
formal setting and does not require any
feedback from the audience. It is the most
formal communicative style for respectful
situations. The frozen style of speech is
generally used in print media, rules, or
declamation.
FORMAL STYLE
This is the type of speech that is used in formal or serious
situations such as workplace environments, dinner parties,
job interviews, and places that require respect such as
Government buildings, and more. Formal language is
specific to what is happening in front of the person or
what has happened. An example of this could be when
someone is discussing a meeting that happened the
previous day where the conversational tone is in short
sentences and organized. It is the exact same way if you’re
writing in a formal way by creating speech or writing that
audiences will remember.
CONSULTATIVE
STYLE
It employs a speech style that
encourages audience engagement and
input. The tone is casual when using
this style of speech making it informal
but more engaging.
CASUAL STYLE
Casual style is a style used in
informal (casual) situation and
using informal language. The
relationship between speaker and
hearer is close, so they usually use
words or term repetition and
frequently use ellipse sentences
INTIMATE STYLE
Intimate language style is usually
used by participants who have
very close. relationship, like
between family members,
between close friends. This
language can be. identified by
the use of incomplete language,
short words, and usually with
unclear. articulation.
