INTERTEXT
It is the relationship between different texts, specifically
literary ones. It is the way that texts refer to and
influence other texts. Intertextuality is an important
stage in understanding a piece of literature, as it is
necessary to see how other works have influenced the
author and how different texts are employed in the
piece to convey certain meanings.
Julia Cristeva post that there are relationships between
many kinds of text adding that there is no actually
unique or no original text.
 This means some text are influence or may have
borrowed some concepts from text of the past.
QUESTION:

What does it mean when a text is reference from another

text?

It means that every text is actually influence by

previous text. And that text are interconnected,
interrelated, or link of a previous text or current one.
FOUR SPECIFIC METHODS OF INTERTEXTUALITY
1. RETELLING-It is the restatement of a story or re-
expression of a narrative.
2. QOUTATION- It is a method of directly lifting exact
statements or set of words from a text another author
has made.
Example: Confucius once said, “Real knowledge it to
know the extent of one’s ignorance.” Gandhi once said
“Coercion cannot but result in chaos in the end.”
3. ALLUSION- In this method, a writer or speaker explicitly
or implicitly pertains to an idea or passage found in
another text without the use of quotation.
Example: Melvin is considered as a prodigal son in the
family.
Prodigal son- a young adult squandered his family’s
resources and has now returned to his parents, seeking
support.
Pastiche: A pastiche is a work of art, literature, film, music
or architecture that closely imitates the work of a previous
artist, usually distinguished from parody in the sense that
it celebrates rather than mocks the work it imitates. The
word pastiche comes from the Italian word pasticcio,
which refers to a pie or pâté with a mix of diverse
ingredients
HYPERTEXT- from the prefix hyper, meaning above or
beyond. Hypertext simply means beyond the text.
 It also connects other topics like related
information, graphics, videos, or sounds to the
text that you are reading.
QUESTION:
HOW HYPERTEXT CONNECTS OTHER TOPICS?

 It connects other topics through the use of

HYPERLINKS.
HYPERLINKS-are clikable words or items in the text you
are reading. Through this, you as a reader can easily
access more information about the topic you are
reading about.
