What is Petra?

Petra is an ancient rock-cut city in the


Near East, Also called the pink city, due to
the representative color of its rocks.

Petra was a rich archaeoligal complex from the


nabatean period, that mix eastern and western
elements.

Petra has been a UNESCO world heritage since 1985 and has been part
of the new 7 worder of the world since 2007.
Wheres is petra located?

• Petra is located between Agaba Gulf and the dead


sea, it lies 800 to 1,396 meters above sea level, in
the valley of the mountain región of Edom. Petra is
located to 200 km southeast of the jordanian capital,
and a 3 hours drive away.
Petra History
• The history of Petra is very long, the first
inhabitants of Petra were nomads, there was no
physical feature of the houses in the region,
since the Civilization built and left there from a
long time ago, it is very complicated to know
more about this Civilization because Currently
there are no documents with more information.
• The city was discovered by Jena Louis
Burckhart in 1812, and several several
documents were found showing the history of
Petra.
How is Petra currently?
• Every year since 2005 the Petra Forum has been organized, which on the
instructions of King Abdullah II of Jordan and the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize
winner Elie Wisel. They work together to promote peace, particularly in the
Middle East
• In 2004, the Jordanian government entered a contract to build a highway to
bring experts to Petra and generate tourism
• On July 7, 2007, Petra was named one of the New 7 Wonders of the World in
private awards.
