Congruency Postulates
1. SSS (Side-Side-Side)
2. SAS (Side-Angle-Side)
3. ASA (Angle-Side-Angle)
4. SAA (Side-Angle-Angle)
5. HL (Hypotenuse-Leg)
6. LL (Leg-Leg)
7. LAA (Leg-Acute Angle)
8. HAA (Hypotenuse-Acute Angle)
Recall the following.
1. Property of Triangle
2. Vertical Angles Theorem
3. Kinds of Triangles based on its sides
Similar Triangles
Two triangles are similar if and only if their corresponding
angles are congruent and their corresponding sides are
proportional.
Similar Triangles
Since triangle similarity is a correspondence between triangles,
the angles and the sides must be listed in corresponding order.

Hence, ∆𝐴𝐵𝐶~∆𝐷𝐸𝐹 is not the same as ∆𝐵𝐶𝐴~∆𝐷𝐸𝐹.

Similarity Postulates
1. AAA Similarity Theorem
If three angles of one triangle is congruent to three angles of
another triangle, then the two triangles are similar.
Similarity Postulates
2. AA Similarity Theorem
If two angles of one triangle is congruent to two angles of
another triangle, then the two triangles are similar.
Similarity Postulates
3. SAS Similarity Theorem
If two sides of a triangle are proportional to the corresponding two
sides of the other triangle, and at the same time, their respective included
angles are congruent, then the two triangles are similar.
Similarity Postulates
4. SSS Similarity Theorem
If the sides of a triangle are proportional to the corresponding
sides of the other triangle, then the two triangles are similar.
Similarity Postulates for Right Angles
1. LL Similarity Theorem
If the legs of a right triangle are proportional to the legs of the
other right triangle, then the two right triangles are similar.
Similarity Postulates for Right Angles
2. HL Similarity Theorem
If the hypotenuse and a leg of one right triangle are
proportional to the hypotenuse and leg of the other triangle, then
the two triangles are similar.
Solving Problems
involving Similar
Triangles
For example:
If your classmate, who is 6 ft. tall, casts a shadow of 10
ft at the same time a flagpole casts a shadow of 85 ft., what
is the height of the flag pole?
