GOOD MORNING

EVERYONE 
Welcome to
MATHEMATICS
VIII
Classroom Rules:
L – listen very carefully and attentively when the
discussion is going on.

S – stand if you are called or raise your right hand if

you want to answer.

P – participate in every class activity/discussion.

NOTE: Always wear your face mask at all times.

You can remove it for a while if you are ask to
talk with.
•Father of “ ALGEBRA “
•Mathematician, Astronomer and Geographer.
•He lived in Baghdad, around 780 to 850 CE
(or AD). He was one of the first to write
about algebra (using words, not letters).
•His surname gives us the term “algorithm”.
•The word “algebra” was derived from his
book Al-Jabr wa-al-Muqabilah. (The

Activity #1: THINK &
SHARE
Instructions:
1.Students are group into four.
2.Observe what is/are the picture/s all about?
3.After observing for 60 seconds, teacher will
call a group and they must discuss of what
they have observe.
Guide Questions:
1. What are the things common to those
pictures?
2. Are there things that make them different?
3. Can you spot things that are found on one
picture but not on the other two? If yes,
what is/are that/those thing/s?
Guide Questions:

They are all MASTERS of Magic!!

Factoring using
GREATEST
COMMON
MONOMIAL
FACTOR
It is my GOAL
for each of you to become
MASTERS of
FACTORING
What is
Factoring?
Factoring?
Factoring is a method to find the basic
numbers and variables that made up a
product.
(Factor) x (Factor) = Product
Some numbers are Prime, meaning they
are only divisible by themselves and 1.
Method 1
Greatest Common Factor (GCF)
numbers or variables or a combination of
the two that is common to the expressions
given.
the greatest factor shared by two or more
numbers, monomials, or polynomials
Types of POLYNOMIAL

multinomial
STEPS in Finding GCF:
1. Determine the greatest common factor of the
given terms. The greatest common factor or GCF is
the largest factor that all terms have in common.
2. Factor out (or divide out) the greatest common
factor from each term. You could check your
answer at the point by distributing the GCF to see if
you get the original question.
Example # 1:
Find the GCF for each set of following.
Hint: list the factors and find the greatest match.

a) x, x2 1*x
x*x x
b) xy, x2y x*y
x*x*y xy COMMON
FACTORS

c) 3x3, 6x2 3*x*x*x

3*2*x*x 3x2
Example # 2:
Factor
4x3y+8x2y2
Solutions:

4 Find the greatest common factor of the numerical coefficients.

x2y Find the variable with the least exponent that appears in each term of the
polynomial.
4x2y The product of the greatest common factor in an expression is the GCF of the
polynomial.
4x2y (1x+2y) To completely factor the given polynomial, divide the polynomial
by its GCF, the resulting quotient is the other factor.
Example # 3:
Factor
12x3y5 – 20x5y2z
Solutions:

4 Find the greatest common factor of the numerical coefficients.

x3y2 Find the variable with the least exponent that appears in each term of the
polynomial.
4x3y2 The product of the greatest common factor in an expression is the
GCF of the polynomial.
4x3y2 (3y3-5x2z) To completely factor the given polynomial, divide the
polynomial by its GCF, the resulting quotient is the other factor.
YOUR TURN!

Try with
yourself!
Factor the following completely:
Problem # 1

8x2 – 16
GCF = 8
8(x2 – 2)
Problem # 2

20x2 –25xy+10x
GCF =5x
5x(4x-5y+2)
Problem # 3

4x2+ 4x y 2 3

GCF = 4x 2

4x (1+y )
2 3
Problem # 4

12x5y4– 16x y + 28x

3 4 6

GCF = 4x 3

4x (3x y -4y +7x )

3 2 4 4 3
Guide Questions:
1. Based on the video, what is
the maximum number of
rabbits that Carl can feed with
the same number of carrots
and broccoli without leftover?
2. What is the greatest common
factor of 45 and 90?
3. Is it possible to apply this in real-
life situation? How?
Activity #2: Video Analysis
Guide Questions:
1. Based on the video, what is
the maximum number of
rabbits that Carl can feed with
the same number of carrots
and broccoli without leftover?
2. What is the greatest common
factor of 45 and 90?
3. Is it possible to apply this in real-
life situation? How?
Instructions:
1.In this activity, you must find an object that
will describe you and your family (things that
make you and your family have in common) and
explain.
2.You only have 60 seconds to find an object.
3.Teacher will call at least 5 students to share
about his/her family.
To generalize:

What are the steps in

solving expressions using
common monomial factor?
Quiz:
 In a 1 whole sheet of paper. Factor the following using COMMON
MONOMIAL FACTOR. Show your solutions. (2 pts. each)

1.6x2y2 + 3xy3
3xy2(2x+1y)
2.4x2 + 12x + 10
2(2x2 +6x+5)
3.12x – 20x
2
4x(3x-5)
4.4x2 – 12x
4x(x-3)
5.5x + 10x
5x(1+2)
Assignment: In a 1 whole sheet of paper.

To those who got scores of:

7 and below = re-answer the quiz.
8 and above = research in advance about
DIFFERENCE OF TWO SQUARES and
give at least 2 examples.
Exit Slip
Write these 2 things in a ½ crosswise
sheet of paper (with your name).
1. What is factoring?
2. What have you learned today about
factoring?
Put your responses on the table before
leaving.
THANK YOU
and
GOD BLESS!!!
