 Born October 2, 1800, Southampton

 The turn point was an annular eclipse of the
Sun that occurred in Virginia on February 12,
1831
 Rebellion Turner started a rebellion in
Southampton County on August 21, 1831
 There were 56 white deaths and about 55
black deaths
 The liberties of the blacks in Virginia were
restricted, and it was forbidden to criticize the
slave system in order to avoid inciting future
revolts.
03 MEXICAN-AMERICAN WAR 1846–1848

 In 1836, Texas declared


independence from Mexico

 Defeat of the Mexicans at the Battle of Palo


Alto and the Battle of Resaca de la Palma

 Feb. 2, 1848, the Treaty of Guadalupe


Hidalgo was signed, ending the war

 Under the treaty, Mexico also recognized


the U.S. annexation of Texas
