Key basic factors to consider in urban

planning
1. Planners must pay attention to the area’s environment:
physical environmental
geological and
geographical forces (use GIS or terrain mapping imagery or LIDAR —Light
Detection and Ranging—is a remote sensing method used to examine the
surface of the Earth)
social-consider demographics for transportation
economic-say farm to market proximity
2. Consider city residents/dwellers
3. Plans must be forward thinking-in anticipation of say health concerns
4. Areas in need of renewal need special consideration.
Affected by calamities,
ethnic clearings,
affected by wars/political conflicts=ex. Afghanistan
5. Urban planners need the right tools at their disposal to do their jobs:
GIS, high resolution picometre imaging, orthogonal imagery
aerial mapping imagery
LIDAR, etc
