Problem statement
For any developing society, there requirements that must facilitate
and sustain development. One of them being engineering and other
related construction skill. These constructional activities are technical
in a sense that there are specific requirements and guidelines that
must be observed. Among these, there are safety, protection of the
environment, quality work among others. These cannot be achieved
when construction work is done in an open place without specific
guidelines followed. Furthermore, teaching and learning of practical
skills need to be done in a gazetted place. It is upon this background
that the idea of a workshop shade came into picture hence the project
being worked on.
Purpose of the project
 Project is to generate and establish student’s knowledge and
understanding in the field of work.
 To get exposed in the engineering field operations.
 Also, it creates a better relationship and friendship so that a
student can compare both theoretical and practical skills.
 To get exposed to the various working environment.
 To create the workshop shade for practical lessons
OBJECTIVES of the project
 To acquire the skills and knowledge concerning the different building techniques
and various tasks encountered during the construction process.
 To exposes students to methods and techniques in handling equipment and
machinery that may be available in our institution.
 To identify tools to analyse the different uses of materials, their area of application
and how these materials are put together to come up with the finished project.
 It obtains engineering practical skills and enhance ability to solve engineering
problems
 To understand the properties and suitability of materials for engineering purposes.
This provides a room for students of higher institution of learning to acquire skills
and experience during the course of study.
 It teaches the students on how to interact effectively with other workers and
supervisors under favourable and unfavourable conditions in the organisation.
ACTIVITIES DONE
 Application of APC.
 Application of DPC

 Wheel barrow
 Spades
 Hoes
 Trowels
 Plumb bob

 Spirit level
SKILLS GAINED
How to apply APC on top of the over site concrete.
How to apply DPC
How to erect the super structure
Explanation of apc
 Application of APC
 This is activity was done to laying of one inch layer of mortar,
this helps in prevention of water penetration to the main walls
 This work was done tothe building using the following tools,
 Trowel
 Straight edge
 Spade
 Wheelbarrow
Brick Work and leveling
Brick work was done using stretcher bonds in outer and internal walls
respectively.
 Laying of brick

This was done by the use of trowel for scooping mortar from onto the wall
And then bricks laid following the building stretched from the raised
corners to ensure the alignment of horizontal of the wall and plumb bob
for vertical alignment of the wall
 Levelling

This was done by use of water level and spirit level with the help of build
line to ensure that wall are on the same level.
Challenges and solutions

Challenges Faced
 There was delay in the supply of the materials on the site

 The rainfall disrupted use for some days which delayed use for some

time
 Some of the work was tiresome for example carrying cement from the

store to the site

Solution to the Challenges
 The material should be supplied in time to avoid the delay of the project

 Provision of the simple method of setting out the supper structure

 Dividing and working in shifts of the members in their respective

groups.
Conclusions and recommendations
 Conclusion
Am so grateful for skills gained during the project and for finishing
the project successfully.
And also want to thank UBTEB for always emphasising the issue us
with project and I would wishes to continue with it.
 4.2 Recommendation

I would like to appreciate and encourage the UBTEB to always

continues with assessing the student s ability through the issue of
real life project
